Ever feel lacking in inspiration or technical ability when it comes to lighting? We’ve got together with award winning photographer and filmmaker Andy Whale to create this specialised workshop, to teach and inspire creative lighting and to help discover just why lighting is so important in photography.
The course is aimed at students and photographic assistants and is the next step up from our Assistant Training Course. It is also suitable for working photographers needing to brush up on their creative lighting skills.
Andy has over 20 years experience in commercial photography producing inspiring and engaging images for a variety of media styles including product launches, advertising campaigns and PR events for an impressive client list: Adidas, Fortnum and Mason, Safeway and Boden to name but a few.
In Andy’s words “My goal of the day is to try to demonstrate the different ways I have used light to create the images I've produced over the years. I believe to light creatively it has to come from inside, from looking at photographs, film, music videos, paintings, landscapes, sunlight, the real world! Absorbing the visual world around us. What I'd like to achieve by the end of the day is to instil excitement from lighting subjects, taking photographs and also to teach some great techniques to takeaway”.
A combination of hands-on practical and classroom work will be used throughout the day using different types of lights including Flash, HMI, Tungsten, Kino and LED for use in still life, beauty and fashion photography along with teaching the importance of colour temperature and the different uses of low and high key lighting.
There's a big difference between lighting something and illuminating it – come along and learn just what that difference is.
